Cervical ectopy, commonly referred to as cervical erosion, is a frequently encountered condition among reproductive-age women and is known in Unani medicine as Quruh al-Rahim. Modern management primarily relies on ablative procedures such as cryocautery, electrocautery, and laser vaporization, which are effective but may cause complications including persistent discharge, cervical stenosis, and recurrence. Unani scholars describe the condition in detail, attributing it to humoral imbalance, inflammatory changes, and disruption of cervical tissue. Treatment is based on the principles of Tahleel (resolution), Tajfeef (desiccation), Jaali (detergent action), and Mudammil (wound healing), using formulations administered as Humool, Huqna, Abzan, and topical or internal medications.
Methodology: This review was conducted by evaluating Unani classical literature, including works of Ibn Sina and Al-Razi, and comparing their therapeutic descriptions with data from modern research databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar. Clinical features, diagnostic approaches, and treatment modalities from both systems were analyzed to identify therapeutic correlations and gaps.
Conclusion: Unani management offers a conservative, natural approach that supports healing and reduces recurrence risk. Integrating Unani therapies with modern diagnostic tools may provide safer and more effective management of cervical ectopy. Further clinical studies are required for validation.
